Hello Fellow Cyclists,

This is my 87' Trek 560 Pro Series. The 19 inch frame is made from Reynolds 531 steel with investment cast lugs, as this was a popular frame materiel in the mid 80's. The geartrain is a 6-speed with biopace crankset, SIS index control and comprised of mainly Shimano 105 components. The bike is nearly all originals with the exceptions of parts I've upgraded. Listings of original parts as well as the upgraded components are detailed below. Vintage-Trek.com also provides a wealth of information about this bike in the Trek Brochure section.

I bought this bike from Craigslist with full intention to do a restoration project and then use it as a secondary bike to my current ride, an 02' Lemond Buenos Aires. I intend to mainly do short rides (12 to 15 mi) with it, usually the commute after work in the San Diego vicinity. With hills everywhere in San Diego and the 52/42 chainring, it is definitely a good workout.

The restoration consisted of disassembling the bike to the bare frame, cleaning and degreasing parts, and then reassembly. The frame received a rust inhibitor treatment and paint touchup. It didn't need a complete paint job but it had many paint chips (probably from improper storage) that eventually rusted over time. Parts like the crank, stem, and seat post were hand polished. The original geartrain were reinstalled as it really didn't need to be replaced as very little wear evident on the rim brake surface and chainring.

I learned a lot from doing this restoration project. It can be addictive as I have the urge to do another one. The bike rides very good and is very comparable to my Lemond. Now I hope to get many years of riding out of it. Who knows maybe on its 30th or 35th birthday, it may get another facelift.

Thanks and enjoy!

Gerry Boehme
